touches of metallic gift tags

I'm so excited to finally be able to share this project with you!  I've got a few photos here, and you can read all the details of my touches-of-metallic tags over on the Crate blog.  I've been sitting on these for a couple of weeks now and I'll tell you again just how much I adore the new Crate Paper Notes & Things collection.  I.  Adore.  It.  It is so much fun to create beautiful things with.

^ Inspired stack of journals for a college-bound student.

^ Party in a box.

^ Give the gift of romance.

^ Just because you are awesome.

And have you seen the preview for the new Maggie Holmes line, Open Book yet?  If it's half as gorgeous in person as it looks on the screen, then I can't wait to get my hands on it!

a couple of wishes

Hi, guys!  Checking in today with a couple of cards I made last month.  It seems like I've only created cards and projects with Crate Paper products for the last year, yet I do have loads of things by other companies...I just have so much Crate--and entire collections of it--that it's easiest just to use that stuff.  It's usually what is within arm's reach, too.  (Oh, and I love it, which helps!)  But today I actually have something I made using other things (ok, you might still be able to spot a couple CP items).

First up is this little number, with the sketched camera journaling card front and center.  The polka dot pattern behind it is another jc; both are from the Dear Lizzy Polka Dot Party Project Life kit.  I paired it with a patterned paper from Glitz Design's Finnley.  I've seen other folks water-color these pencil-sketched cards and I've loved them!  I took a simpler route, though, adding the bright floral fabric brad for an unexpected burst of color.

Next up...well, I suppose this card is pretty heavy on the Crate, and I kind of love it!  I had to re-visit The Pier recently to make some cards for a client and when I saw that I had never used this minty chipboard bike, I had to remedy that!  I also had the wooden words sitting out on my desk, intending to use them elsewhere, but stole them for this card :)

Does anyone else have the issue of Blogger dulling their photos?  I've read endless tips and articles on fixes for it but it still happens sometimes.  These bike photos are prime examples--they look much more vibrant in Photoshop than they do here.  The color output is sRGB, I've resized them, saved for Web & Devices, boosted the saturation, and even closed my Google+ account (which I never used anyhow), based on online tips.  If anyone has any other suggestions, please do share in the comments!

Don't forget that kits and tags are on sale in my Etsy shop through Sunday, August 24...Pretty please tell your friends!  Get yourself some Summer Sweets tags before summer is officially over!

I'll have those Gossamer Blue sneak peaks for you in a day or two...I'm finding so much fun stuff to play with in the September kits!

Crate Paper : Notes & Things

Happy Friday, all!  As promised, I've got those peaks at the new Notes & Things from Crate Paper.  I am IN LOVE with this line, I tell you--LOVE!

The colors are beautiful--pinks and peaches and mint, plus a bit of gray and black with a lot of gold touches.  And then there's even some kraft in there, too.  I've found myself smitten with the kraft and gold pairing lately so this makes my heart leap!

Aside from the office-inspired attributes, the collection doesn't really have a theme, which I'm happy about.  That means you can use it for anything, and a versatile collection will always be welcome in my studio.

I can't even tell you my favorite item in the collection because I love every single piece.  There are gorgeous chipboard frames, layered journaling cards, textured tags, and a terrific variety of patterned papers.  As a wannabe graphic designer, I am so impressed with the designs here.  Soft and muted graphics mixed with a few dark and bold prints; timeless typography, as well as the trendy "wet paint" font.  I think this is one collection you're going to want to get your hands on--and probably HOARD, if you do that sort of thing!

The Crate blog is going to start debuting projects next week made using Notes & Things so you'll be inspired by our amazing DT in just a few days.  Until then, I've got a little gift tag I can share.  This took all of 5 minutes due to the awesome-ness of this line!  Seen here are a metallic gold journaling card, floral print chipboard frame, and butterfly standout, mixed with a few "standards" of my own (pink lace, silver clip, and manila tag).

Well, what do you think?  While I pretty much still love every line CP produces, N&T brings with it a feeling of giddiness and excitement that I haven't had since DIY Shop.  I've also been lucky enough to have a glimpse at the next release and it, too, looks like it will illicit that same reaction!  So I'm very much looking forward to the next few months of Crate and I'll be sharing it all right here!

Thanks for stopping by and have a great weekend!

ffc37 {pink wreath & vintage truck}

You know Christmas is going to be here before we know it, right?  I mean, it's already August, back-to-school is everywhere, stores have their Halloween and Fall decor for sale.  Most of the scrapbooking companies are releasing their holiday collections...Yikes!  How has the year gone by so fast?!

Didn't mean to scare or offend anyone there with my musings, but Christmas has just popped up on my radar and since this is a Festive Friday post, I had to share that.  Is anyone else thinking about the holidays yet?

I used all Crate Paper goods here (except the doily).  Although I like this week's picture a lot, I wasn't too sure what to do for the challenge so I took the wreath as my inspiration.  The card has a very different feel to it than the photo, I know, but that's kind of the point of a challenge, isn't it?  Not to replicate the picture exactly, but to see something in the composition that draws you in and lead with that.  I took the pink wreath from Sleigh Ride, the green resin bow from Oh, Darling, the pink frame from Love Notes, the Merry Christmas banner from Bundled Up, and the green sticker trim from On Trend.  That just about covers every collection CP has, doesn't it?!

We've recently started offering up some mid-challenge DT inspiration over at FF.  It's strictly if-you-have-time-contribute-if-not-it's-okay.  I found a bit of time last week to make a second card, which is much more traditional than the first.

I have a bunch of Cavallini embellishments which I love but always seem to forget about using.  This tag with the old-fashioned truck on it came from a tin of Christmas tags and is pretty perfect for the photo, don't you think?  I used a couple more CP goodies (recognize the green scallop trim?!), and the red JOY badge is from Prima.  Although I've mostly moved out of the shabby, vintage-style when creating, it's fun to get back to it every now and then.

There will be a new challenge going up on Friday, but you still have time to get your submission in and see the offerings from our talented DT.

In other news, I got my first kits from Gossamer Blue last week (EEK!) and I can't wait to show you what I'm working on (you'll have to wait a couple weeks, though).  I also just received the Notes & Things collection from Crate...It. Is. Awesome.  It's tremendously versatile and so, so, so pretty.  I'll be popping in later this week to share a few pieces of the collection with you.

I also just listed the new Birds of a Feather gift wrap/paper kit in my Etsy shop.  I love this kit!  I have seriously been conceiving it in my head for a couple of years so I am very excited to have it completed and listed.  There will be a post dedicated to it one of these days...Until then, please check it out here.  And just to celebrate the new addition, ALL KITS ARE ON SALE this week!  They are all 20% off--no coupon code needed.  Pretty please tell your friends!

I'll see you back here in a couple of days!

news + notes

Do you ever feel like there are so many things going on that you can't keep it all straight and even if you tried to write it all down, the page would just be a scribbled, out of control mess?  I've kind of felt like that all week!  It's all good stuff going on--there's just a lot of it!

First things first:  I'm thrilled to say that I'm joining the Gossamer Blue Design Team this term!  Ever since they started their monthly kits a couple years ago, I have been so inspired by them!  There's something about a kit that I just love anyhow--I love to see items that weren't "born" together (i.e. from the same scrapbook collection) put together and all laid out in a pretty picture.  GB has always done an amazing job of coordinating their kits.  And their DT's have always been full of talent, too.  I am so excited for the next year on this team!

{GB August Main Kit}
Speaking of kits, I gave you some sneak peaks (ok, not really peaks because I showed you the whole dang thing) of some little pretties I have been working on.  There's this new monthly goodie box happening called Indie Craft Sampler.  For $27, you get a box full of hand-crafted awesomeness like soaps, art prints, and jewelry.  It sounds so cool that I joined as a contributor and am offering up 75 of my mini gift wrap kits!  I made 3 different kits (25 of each) and put tags, mini clothespins, twine, and doilies in each one.  The first box ships in September so head over to the ICS blog to see who else is contributing and what it's all about!  {To see more of what's tucked into each of my little kits, visit here.}

Things got so hectic after my mother-in-law's heart attack that I was forced to take a bit of time off from my regular Design Teams (Crate Paper and Festive Friday), so if you haven't seen me there in awhile, that's why.  I'm happy to say I'm back, though--I've missed them both tremendously!  There's a new FF challenge this week and I'll be getting my post up here in a couple days or so.  But if you can't wait, check out the FF blog right now!

And this is what's coming soon to the Etsy shop...birds + feathers...I can't wait!

I think that's enough news for now, but we'll chat again soon!
